As I continue to go through life I realized that people have different definitions of words based off of their experiences. Based on my experiences I would define community as a group of people who share the same goals, share cultural background, share the same interests. The overall meaning is a group of people who have a lot in common and they interact with each other. The people that make up my community are women, African Americans, college students, Christians, Caribbean people, writer lovers and many more. The people that share my interests and goals are part of my community. The people that share the same characteristics they identify with are part of my community. Community helps bring unity and strength. Like the saying “There is strength in numbers” community is like that. Community matters at this time in history because it helps bring attention and/or awareness. It depends on the goal that you are trying to reach. It’s important in our society because through history it has shown that people with common goals and interests have come together to reach a goal. For example, women since the 1820s have come together to get the same rights a men. After all the protests and unity from women they got what they wanted. My experience of community is when I was in high school and my Astronomy club wanted to go on a club trip to a museum. The Astronomy club was really new and we did not have a lot of members. To be honest, I only joined because one of my favorite teachers created it. Anyways, the process to go on the trip was to get a fundraiser started to build a fund. The paperwork always came back with the teacher having to do something. As a little club we were, we came up with ideas on how to make this club grow. We came up with the idea to draw in new members. Most of the club were seniors so we needed underclassmen in the club. So, we recruited students and we got the club trip. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and we never went on the trip. I value community because it can help get what you want. It’s even better when people are united for a good cause. Community is a good way to have support, to build a bond, and create friendships. To have a group of people back you is the way to get the outcome you want.
